IP protection level

IP is defined by the IEC, which specifies the degree of protection of electrical equipment from dust and water. For example IP54, IP55, IP64, IP65

INTERNATIONAL PROTECTION LEVEL WHERE IS IT?

If you regularly perform estimating for a project, there will be devices that require IP54 protection, for example. But you find in the market only one with IP55. So can it be replaced?

If you are a manufacturer of electrical panel cabinets, the investor requires you to manufacture cabinets for them to meet IP44 standards, for example. If you do not understand what IP44 requires, you will not dare to take orders.

Understanding the IP protection level will help you solve the above 2 problems well

STRUCTURE, MEANING OF IP54

The structure of the IP protection level for example IP54 includes: IP and 2 digits. The first digit (5) indicates protection against ingress of dust, the second digit (4) indicates protection against ingress from water.

MEANING FIRST : DUST RESISTANCE LEVELS

1. Indicated to prevent the entry of larger solid objectsProtects from objects (such as hands) touching lamp parts by accident. Prevents objects whose size (diameter) is larger than 50mm.
2. Said to be able to prevent entry of medium-sized objects Prevents penetration of fingers and other medium-sized objects (diameter greater than 12mm, length larger 80mm).
3. Indicates to prevent the entry of solid objects larger than 2.Prevent objects (such as tools, wires or the like) with a diameter or thickness greater than 2.5 mm from touching into the internal parts of the lamp.
4. Indicates to prevent the entry of solid objects larger than 1.Prevent objects (tools, wire or similar) with a diameter or thickness greater than 1.0mm from touching the inside of the lamp.
5. Indicates dust protection. Completely prevent solid object ingress, it can’t completely prevent dust ingress, but dust ingress does not affect the normal operation of the device.
6. Indicates complete dust protection. Prevent the ingress of objects and dust completely.

SECOND NUMBER MEANING : WATER RESISTANCE LEVEL

0. Indicates no protection.
1. Only prevent the ingress of dripping water. Vertical drops of water (such as rain, not accompanied by wind) do not affect the operation of the device.
2. Only prevent water ingress at an angle of 15 degrees. Or when the device is tilted 15 degrees, water dripping vertically will not cause any harm.
3. Indicates that the penetration of small, light water jets can be prevented. The device can withstand water jets, domestic faucets at an angle of less than 60 degrees (Specifically, rain accompanied by strong winds)
4. Indicates to prevent water ingress from nozzles in all directions
5. Indicated to prevent water penetration by high pressure nozzles in all directions.
6. Indicates that it can resist the penetration of large waves. The device can be mounted on the deck of a ship, and can withstand large waves.
7. Indicates that the device can be submerged in water for a short time at low water pressure.
8. Indicates that the device can work properly when immersed in water for a long time at a certain water pressure, and make sure that no harm is caused by water.
